Since the original enactment of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) in 1951 it has always included Article 92 that clearly states that it is a soldier’s duty to disobey unlawful orders. Period. Full stop.
If the President is threatening people with execution because they make it a point to highlight that fact, then that implies that the President is expecting blind obedience from the military, regardless of the legality of the orders he gives. Which is what a monarch expects of his military, not a U.S. President.
